Ethylene Oxide (EtO) Sterilisation

Ethylene Oxide (EtO) sterilisation is a gas-based process that uses ethylene oxide to destroy microorganisms, making it ideal for medical devices that do not have gas traps, or devices that have materials that are not gamma stable.

Meridian Medical has extensive experience supporting Ethylene Oxide (EtO) sterilisation programmes for a wide range of medical devices. EtO offers a cost-effective and versatile solution, particularly for kits of mixed devices, tube sets, and products that cannot be steam sterilised. It is also a widely accepted medical device sterilisation method under international regulatory standards.

Gamma Sterilisation

Gamma sterilisation is a radiation-based process that uses high-energy gamma rays to eliminate microorganisms, making it ideal for devices with gas traps, or that need a fast turnaround time.

For products where EtO sterilisation is not appropriate, Meridian Medical can also support gamma sterilisation. This method is commonly used where EtO is unsuitable due to device compatibility or residual risk considerations. It is well suited to medical devices sensitive to EtO exposure, including those with high residual risk, gas traps, or foil packaging.
